What cables are required to connect to ARCs?

A single standard straight-through CAT-5/6 cable will provide power and data to an ARC from the host DSP.  The daisy-chain to subsequent ARCs also uses CAT-5/6.

Legacy DSPs that pre-date the ARC Port (RJ-45) communicate to ARCs with a twisted-pair (A, B, Ground) for RS-485 data.  In this scenario a local external transformer provides up to 24VDC to the ARC.

What kind of cable do I use to hook up the RC-3?

Standard two-conductor shielded twisted pair.

Is the xControl an RS-485 device?

No, the xControl is a true POE device that communicates to the DSP hardware over Ethernet.

No download is necessary.  ARC-WEB is a web app that is hosted on the Jupiter hardware.  After programming the ARC-WEB in the Jupiter software, simply type in the hardware’s IP address into your web browser.

ARC Power Calculator

An ARC’s power requirements vary depending on the voltage supplied to it. For example, an ARC-2e at 24V DC uses approximately 55 mA, while at 7V DC it uses approximately 170 mA maximum. As the voltage varies from 24 to 7 VDC, the current requirement increases accordingly. ARCs can be daisy-chained and fed power over this daisy-chain from an ARC-PSe or other device. However, as the length of the cable increases, so does the resistive line loss, which lowers the voltage available at each subsequent ARC. The actual power drain on each output from the powering device can vary substantially depending on the number of ARCs and the distance each of them is separated by. In order to assist with system design, Symetrix has available a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that can help a system designer determine power requirements based upon cable length, number of ARCs and the power supply to be used.

What kind of cable do I use to hook up the Analog Control Inputs?

Standard two-conductor shielded twisted pair.

What distance can an ARC be from the host DSP?

The distance varies greatly depending on the type of ARC, the gauge of the cable, and the number of arcs chained together.  Download Link: ARC Power Calculator.

Can the xControl be powered from a Control I/O power supply?

No, the power supply for the legacy Control I/O is not compatible with the xControl.  A POE injector ships with the xControl.

Where can I download archived versions of Composer software?

Archived versions of all final public releases of Composer software are listed in the table below. The software runs on a Windows PC and is used to configure, design, and control Composer-based products. For new designs we highly recommend using the latest version of Composer, however archived major release versions can be found below for legacy compatibility and/or troubleshooting requirements. All firmware files are included as part of the downloaded Composer software package. The Composer firmware versions and Dante Kernels listed below are to help in cross-referencing the firmware running on the installed DSP(s) with the corresponding version of Composer that should be downloaded.

To communicate with Symetrix hardware from a given version of Composer, it may be necessary to upgrade (or downgrade) firmware in each hardware device. This can be done directly from the Composer application and only takes a few minutes per device. Firmware upgrade is done from the Composer Hardware menu.
