Symetrix and Hennepin Technical College Partner to Empower the Next Generation of AV Pros

Hennepin Technical College (HTC) is the largest stand-alone technical college in the Minnesota State higher education system. They serve students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including high-school graduates, those retraining for new careers, and those gaining new training for their existing employer. HTC’s mission is to provide excellence in career and technical education for employment and advancement in an ever-changing global environment.

The Audio Production Program at HTC has been operating for almost 30 years and has trained students who go on to work in broadcast, AV design and installation, recording studios, corporate AV, music venues, houses of worship, and pretty much any area that needs great audio.

In 2024, Hennepin Technical College was looking to form an alliance with a top-notch audio equipment manufacturer to help get the Upper Midwest’s only AV Design and Install program up and running.

“Symetrix definitely stepped up helped us with the startup,” said Matt Holmes, a member of HTC faculty for over 18 years.

Symetrix Prism 8×8 and Radius NX 12×8 DSP processing units along with touchscreens of various sizes, remote control wall units, and Dante-enabled IO devices are included in the training program.

“We are super excited to explore all the avenues offered to us through this partnership with Symetrix,” said Matt.

The latest Symetrix gear will provide many different learning opportunities for the students such as audio routing, programming, system design, external device control, and more.

“We’re proud to be a part of this new relationship with Symetrix,” said Jim Jordahl, AV instructor at HTC. “They have top-notch gear, and the need for AV professionals trained on such gear is so high. There is a lot of interest from companies looking to hire people with skills gained from using this gear.”
